Ganeau, 1714.
Good copy in elegant coeval binding of the first edition of this monumental, profusely illustrated botanical work on the plants of southern Europe. Barellier during his long stay in Rome founded a botanical garden where he collected a considerable amount of species that he catalogued and designed. Unfortunately, he died before he could complete the work, and a fire destroyed all his notes except for the illustrated plates that Antonio de Jussieu unearthed in this work.
Folio, ( x 225mm). 3 engraved frontispieces with author's portrait, 334 endpapers of plates with over 1300 plan illustrations (fascicle s2 laid after a). Elegant coeval full-leather binding with embossed decorations to plates, gold title to spine, splash cuts.
