Important oval tureen and its support in chased and embossed silver The cover in doucine, decorated with rosettes and reserves lined with a twist, is surmounted by a grip grained on acanthus foliage, surrounded by a row of pearls. The body, enriched with a frieze of acanthus scrolls framed by moldings, is flanked by two leafy handles. It is provided with a double interior container and it rests on a fluted pedestal. The support in doucine presents a similar decoration to the lid surrounded by a frieze of flutes It rests on four small round feet Master Goldsmith : J T. LUCAS. Jean-Toussaint LUCAS. Quoted master in 1784 Paris. Louis XVI period. 1787. H 39 W 43 cm Weight : 6 kg The lid, the body and the support present a crowned shield topped by an eagle and supported by two winged figures on an entablature. The symbolism of the winged figures and the eagle indicates, very probably, a realization intended for an ecclesiastical person. Expert : Stéphane Pèpe
