PARDINEL COLLECTION
We present for sale a group of works from the Pardinel family collection.
Charles Pardinel (1853-1921) was the son of Jean-Charles Pardinel who was an engraver introduced into the world of fine arts.
He was a friend and confidant of the couturier Jacques Doucet and was entrusted with the management of the eponymous fashion house (Chapon F., 2006, p. 69-71).
Throughout his life, he will build a collection of paintings, furniture and art objects.
In 1921, he sold a large part of his collection to the perfumer François Coty.
The inventory of this sale, established by an auctioneer, reveals the greatest names in the history of art: Watteau, Fragonard, Largilliere, Reynolds, Guardi, Lawrence, Perroneau, Clouet, De Voos, as well as Chardin, Mignard, Hubert Robert, Tiepollo, Troyon, Ingres, Greuze...
He was to rub shoulders with the painter André Marcel Baschet (1862-1941) (whose works can be found, among others, in the Musée d'Orsay and the Château de Versailles), who painted his portrait and that of his wife Marie-Françoise Huan, a milliner, which we are presenting to you at the sale (lots 1 and 2).
In 1908, he acquired "La belle Strasbourgeoise" (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Strasbourg) directly from the Countess de Sarcus.
The same year, he also acquired works from the sale of the studio of the painter Charles Landelle, including a portrait of a man bequeathed to the Louvre (RF 1757).
On June 5 and 8, 1912, he was the organizer of the sale of the collection of Jacques Doucet, during which he also acquired works (lot 20).
