GARD. AIGUES-MORTES. Parchment dated August 25, 1563, made in the town of AIGUES-MORTES. It concerns the Gens de Mortes-payes of the Ville et Forteresse d'Aigues-Mortes. They acknowledge having received from the Treasurer of the Sénéchaussées of Beaucaire and Nimes their wages, mortes-payes and garrison, for four quarters... (Mortes-payes were garrison troops, reporting to the King, responsible for defending strongholds, in this case Aigues-Mortes). Parchment (26 x 41 cm). Some defects.
