A beautiful baroque silver and vermeil silver pax board. 18th century. Zaragoza 'CESATE - NOBLE' punches. Dated 1786. It has an inscription on the back which reads as follows: “SE HYZO, A ESP.S DE LA COF.A SDO MAYORDOMO D.N MYG.L AVYZANDA AÑO 1786” For a better understanding: 'It was made at the expense (request) of the Cofraternity, Don Miguel Avyzanda being steward, in 1786.' The central part depicts the first apparition of Saint Peter, the first Pope of the Church, to Saint Ignatius at his sister's house, in Loyola. While Ignatius was convalescing, due to the attack by the Lombards in Pamplona, which was besieged by the French in 1521, the saint prayed and read about the lives of saints. On the day of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, his doctors considered that if he did not improve by midnight, they would have to leave him for dead. That same night, one of the worst of his convalescence, Saint Peter appeared to him and his recovery and religious mission began. 20 x 16.5 cm.
