Pair of imposing carved, ebonised wooden frames with applications of bone and stained bone. Venice. Italy. 17th century. Both frames are made up of three sections of moulding. The external one is decorated with bone inlays, forming a border of ovals and points. The middle moulding, concave in shape, has diamond-shaped decoration made of bone, ebony and walnut, studded in the four corners with a circular piece of carved and polychromed wood. The innermost molding, which protrudes, is marvellously decorated with a flat border made using the Embriacchi technique, made up of two intertwined ribbons of bone, green-tinted bone and ebony; finished off at the corners, in turn, by four pyramidal pieces with a quadrangular plant. In one of the frames, one of these pieces is missing and another has flaws. Lastly, there is an oblique plaque formed by alternating triangles in ebony and bone joining the frame to the possible painting or mirror that it would have held.  We usually find Embriacchi technique, originating in Italy from the 14th and 15th centuries, applied to caskets, game boxes, reliquary boxes and boards... However, it is evident that this technique lasted and was used, as in our case, to decorate more diverse objects. 70.5 x 63 cm each. Interior measurements: 33 x 25 cm each.
