'The Coronation of the Virgin Mary'. Gilded and embossed copper relief. Flemish or Italian school. Early 17th century. The plaque depicts the Madonna and Child in the centre; she holds the sceptre in her right hand and the Child holds the orb in his left hand. Above them, a pair of angels crown Mary as Queen of Heaven. On both sides of the scene are four other pairs of angels: some reading the Holy Scriptures and others marvelling at the coronation. The chiselling and embossing of this copper piece is magnificent, achieving details of exquisite quality, as can be seen in the hands and in the ornamentation of Mary's dress and on both faces. 32,5 x 24 cm.
