Nam June Paik worked throughout his career as a musical composer, but also as a video artist, painter and printmaker. He trained musically at the University of Tokyo, where he also studied Art History. He later travelled to Germany in the mid-1950s to study music theory in Munich, Cologne and Freiburg. He worked in the electronic music research laboratory of Radio Cologne, and participated in the artistic research groups Happening and Fluxus. In this and other lithographs he investigates the graphic possibilities through the serialisation of elements close to the aesthetics of the video game and even the "emoticon".
