A DIAMOND 'LOVE' BANGLE, BY CARTIER Designed as two arches, which only fastens by screws at the side, detailed with four brilliant-cut diamonds, two screws and six additional decorative screwhead motifs, mounted in 18K gold, signed Cartier, numbered, Swiss assay mark, European convention mark, Italian registry mark, accompanied by its maker's screwdriver and travelling pouch, inner diameter approx. 5cm, inner circumference approximately 15cm In 1969, Aldo Cipullo, an Italian designer for Cartier, designed the Love Bracelet. It is comprised of two separate pieces and requires a vermeil screwdriver to unlock the two screws which fastened the piece to the wearer’s wrist. The idea, which became incredibly popular, was for couples to lock the bracelets together as a sign of romantic commitment. The bracelet has been so adored that it is rumoured that hospitals in New York City still keep a vermeil screwdriver on site in case it is required. The Love Bracelet carries on today as one of Cartier's most well-known designs.
