Mainly historical subjects, but also created animal images. 1888-1892: studied at the Vienna Academy under S. L'Allemand and at the Munich Art Academy under O. Seitz and C. Marr. 1899 collaboration on the design of the Viennese town hall cellar (with H. Lefler and J. Urban), furthermore illustrations in 1898-1902 for the die „Bilderbogen für Schule und Haus“ (picture sheets for school and house, Gesellschaft f. vervielfält. Kunst); Represented in the Hagenbund for the first time in 1902, exhibited as a guest in the Hagenbund for the first time in 1900, 1902-1909 a member of the Hagenbund. 1904-1911: stay in the USA, worked as a stage decorator and costume designer for Deutsches Theater in New York. Then he returned to Vienna; from 1911, he was a member of Wiener Künstlerhaus. During World War I, he worked partly as a war painter and orderly officer, in 1934 memorial exhibition at Künstlerhaus, Vienna. Works at Belvedere, Albertina, Vienna Museum. Prizes, honours (selection): 1892 Füger medal in gold (Academy); 1911 Ludwig Lobmeyr Prize; 1913 Imperial Prize; 1914 2nd and 3rd prize in the competition for the decoration of the ballroom in the Ministry of War in Vienna.
