from the personal possession or court of Elector Frederick William of Brandenburg - the Great Elector with his monogram FW and the family coat of arms of the Hohenzollern dynasty. Colorless, very slightly manganese-tinted glass. Conical shape, flat bottom with break. Very finely cut, partially blown decoration, probably made by Martin Winter. On the front is a cartouche-framed oval medallion with the Brandenburg eagle as the heraldic animal of the dynasty, bearing on its breast the four-cornered Hohenzollern coat of arms. The baroque cartouche is crowned by the electoral hat as the ruler's attribute of the Electors of Brandenburg; below this rests on a symmetrically composed trophy bundle with Turkish weapons, and in the center a transverse oval medallion, set slightly diagonally, with the ligature monogram "FW" for Elector Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg. The standing area and lip rim accented by an opulent, curved floral and foliate vine frieze. One minor and one minimal bump to the lip rim. H. 14.5 cm. An important German Potsdam glass beaker with the engraved coat of arms of the Electorate of Brandenburg and the House of Hohenzollern and the monogram FW of the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg. One minor chip and a very minor chip to the rim. Potsdam. Cut probably Martin Winter. 1686-1688.
