Robert JACOBSEN (1912-1993) "Totem". Important sculpture made of black lacquered welded metal plates forming a stabile. Around 1960. Height : 478 cm - Width : 100 cm Depth : 55 cm Provenance : Our sculpture was acquired directly from the artist in the 1960's, remained in the family by descent. Born in 1912 in Denmark, Robert Jacobsen was taught by a sculptor and stonecutter. In 1941, he exhibited his work for the first time at the Autumn Salon in Copenhagen. In 1947, he moved to Paris and met the Danish artists Richard Mortensen and Asger Jorn. It was from there that he turned to metal and created his first sculptures. He received the Grand Prix at the Venice Biennale in 1966. In the 1970s, he returned to Denmark to fulfill numerous public commissions, including a monumental metal sculpture for the Copenhagen train station.
