Derain had no children with his wife Alice. However, his mistress, Raymonde Knaublich, had a natural son, Boby, who was recognized by the painter. The latter, who died in 1992, owned three quarters of his father's studio, which his mother inherited. She died in her turn in 2001. The Jean Loiseau-Alain Schmitz sale presented a group of works by the artist from Derain's studio.
