Large embroidered red silk panel, Indochina/Vietnam, 1st half of the 20th century Rectangular in shape, embroidered with polychrome and metallic threads, inscribed in French: "Madamme (sic) et Monsieur Mattei, Commissaire de police 2e arrondissement", and below large Chinese characters "Fu lu pian zhen" (to achieve prosperity and happiness together) amidst flowering scrolls, auspicious symbols, Buddhist lions, phoenixes as well as two dignitaries, surrounded by a succession of fine decorative friezes of different colors, terminating with a row of tassels at the bottom.
