CASTLE OF EU Service of the king Louis-Philippe at the castle of Eu Rare pair of hard porcelain ice-cream dishes, with a poly-lobed rim, the marli on a pale green background with gold printed decoration of scrolls and ornaments, central rose window in gold. A mini-splinter at the edge of each. Manufacture royale de Sèvres, 1847. Gold stamp marks with the King's figure dated 1847, red stamp marks of the Château d'Eu, manufacturing marks of the paste dated 1846. D. 14 cm. Provenance Service described as "pale green background, polychrome flower cartels on black background, central rosettes and ornaments printed in gold", ordered by King Louis-Philippe for the Château d'Eu in January 1836 for 60 place settings, it will be increased several times in October 1842, August 1844, June 1847 and July 1848, before being delivered after the fall of the King to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 1852. Paid for out of his personal coffers, the King did not count on his favorite summer residence, the Château d'Eu. One only has to compare the selling price of the flat plates of this service: 45 francs, the most expensive service in proportion. It was used at the family table during the Orléans' stays at the seaside, but it was also used for official visits, like those of Queen Victoria in 1843 and 1845. The number of ice-cream scoops produced for this service is close to 140, as for most of the services of the royal table.
