Pair of ormolu sconces with a truncated diamond-shaped plate in the form of a Roman shield on a lictor beam, decorated with scrolled and palmettes bases, and a lion's head holding in its mouth three trumpet-shaped light arms, two of which are scrolled, decorated with long leaves, palmettes or bearded men's masks, and finished with helmet-shaped binnacles with a knight's grille. Model attributed to Lucien François FEUCHERE. Fixations by screws and pins. About 1820-1825. Trace of handwritten inscription on a band of fixing to the wall. Drilled for electricity. H. 45,5 cm. - Width : 27,5 cm. Gerce to a fastening band. Some wear and small stains to the gilding; a spearhead of a beam, damaged; fixings of some elements to be revised, some screw heads partially missing; a pin missing. Lucien-François FEUCHERE is a chiseller, active in Paris between 1780 and 1828, in the workshop founded by his father Pierre-François (1737-1823), bronze and gilding artist, whom he assists. In 1820, he delivered four arms of lights identical to ours for the Garde Meuble Royal. A pair will be deposited in the hotel of the minister of the House of the King, and the second will go to the Tuileries Palace, in 1823. The decoration mixes the heritage of the late Empire style with the lictor beams and shields referring to the Roman period, with the palmettes and the lion heads, and with the helmets showing the growing interest for the medieval period and the development of the neo Gothic style.
