Presumed portrait of Baron Charles-Jean-Marie Alquier (Tallemont 1752-Paris 1826). Deputy of the Third Estate at the Assembly of the States General (1789) Mayor of La Rochelle and French ambassador under the Ist Empire, in Sweden and then in Denmark. Oil on canvas of oval shape. 66,4 x 55 cm. Framing; small restorations; old yellowed varnish. Gilded wooden frame of oval shape. Provenance: 1 - Collection Mademoiselle Mather (La Rochelle) 2 - Galerie Maître, antique dealer in La Rochelle (until September 1923) 3 - Collection Jean Béraud (architect in La Rochelle). Aimée Duvivier, student of Jean-Baptiste Greuze and Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun, lived in La Rochelle from 1822 to 1852. The alleged portrait of Baron Alquier was attributed to her by Jean Gabriel Goulinat (1883-1972), director of the national museum restoration workshop at the Louvre (1923).
