Stone tile of rectangular section carved with a head of satire in a medallion.

This carved plate allowed the ventilation of the interiors of palaces but also the evacuation of water.
To be compared with a work by Lorenzo Rubini, Head of a faun, sculpted in the pavement of the great salon of the Villa Rotonda, built by Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) in Vicenza. Detail reproduced in C. Rugoni, a cura di, Scultura a Vicenza, Milan, 1899.
