For six months, from 28 April to 11 November 1906, Milan hosted the International Exhibition on the theme "Science, the City and Life". For the first time an international exhibition focused on man, society, work and transport. The poster shown here is from the exhibition celebrating the opening of the Simplon Alpine tunnel in 1906, which provided a direct link between Paris and Milan via Switzerland. It is one of the most famous and successful designs by Metlicovitz (1868 - 1944), an Italian painter and poster artist.
