~ * MASTERPIECE OF MARQUETRY AND BRONZIER EXCEPTIONAL DESK IN MARQUETRY BOULLE ON THE MODELS PRESERVED IN THE WALLACE COLLECTION AND IN VERSAILLES Marquetry boulle in counterpart and very rich decoration of chiseled and gilded bronzes. Around 1840. H. 77,5 cm L. 140,5 cm W. 71 cm Superb state of conservation. It has its key. Passport N° 236966 delivered on 29/09/2022 by the Ministry of Culture. It rests on four feet in bronze hock, finished by a scroll of acanthus. The uprights are covered at the corners with a head of faun encorné under a palmette. The curved belt opens to five drawers. The center one is recessed, framed by a narrow flat drawer above a drawer in the shape of a lamp base. The sides, wider than the Wallace desk, are decorated with a superb Boulle panel depicting a lush garden with two figures. The bottom of these elegant panels is decorated with a lion's head between two acanthus brackets. The overflowing tray is gilded bronze. The brown tortoiseshell background with some mother-of-pearl butterflies represents a mother-of-pearl garden fountain surrounded by numerous characters resting from a hunt, next to their dogs and bows and quivers lying on the ground. A young naked woman enters the water of the fountain in the guise of Diana accompanied by her followers. The scene takes place under a drapery folded over the branches of two trees. The subject extends over the entire stage with remarkable precision.
