Famous spiritual reflections of the Duchess of La Vallière (1644-1710), former mistress of Louis XIV, who, after her disgrace, turned to religion and led a long penitential retreat among the Carmelites. The original edition was published in 1680. Elegant contemporary morocco binding. Slight uniform foxing, small halo at the head of several leaves, tiny black ink stain on the first cover.
