First published in 1864 under the title "Los Proverbios por Don Francisco de Goya". There were 9 editions from 1864 to 1936 (Pierre GASSIER and Juliet WILSON, "Vie et œuvre de Francisco Goya", Office du Livre, Editions Vilo, n° 1571, proverb 1). The first edition does not include the order numbers of the plates which will be engraved for the second edition of 1875.
