FABER A BRUXELLES MANUFACTURE OF IXELLES Fine tripod cup and its saucer out of gold and polychrome porcelain, decorated on the front of an oval miniature representing "the Emperor Napoleon Ier in uniform of the horse hunters of the Guard", carrying the insignia of Grand Eagle of the Legion of honor, framed of a mat blue belt, decorated with gold of a continuation of ivy leaves connecting two medallions with the eagle on lightning. The whole surmounted by a string of white pearls. Gold interior with white background. Handle in the shape of a seahorse. It rests on three feet in lion's paw (small accident to one). Signed on the bottom " F.Faber in Brussels" Gold and blue saucer with decoration in suite: string of white pearls, ivy, eagles and foliage. Ht cup: 8 cm. Diam cup: 7,4 cm. Diameter of the saucer : 13,8 cm. B.E. Period Ier empire. History : Frederic FABER (1782-1844). Son of the painter Jean Herman Faber, he trained with the painter Ommeganck, to whom the empress Josephine ordered a painting. Under the Empire, Faber settled in rue de la Madeleine, where he sold his oil paintings, miniatures and his porcelain in white (we note that our piece combines the last two specialties). During the Salon of 1815, his work seduced King William I of the Netherlands, of whom he became the porcelain painter. Faber's porcelains come from the Mortelèque factory in Ixelles (Belgium).
