Biography:
Louis Laffite (1770-1828) was a French painter, draughtsman and student of Gilles Demarteau and then of Jean Baptiste Regnault. Admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in Paris, he was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome for painting in 1791. He was the last painter sent to Rome during the reign of Louis XVI. In 1796, he provided twelve drawings for the Republican Calendar. He made drawings for the birth of the Duke of Bordeaux in 1820, and for the coronation of Charles X in 1825.
