History:
The original, kept in the Borghese Gallery, by Camille Borghese, the second husband of Pauline Bonaparte, was sculpted from 1805 to 1808. Characteristic of the sculptor's neoclassical style, the work caused a scandal because of the rumor that the princess had posed nude for the sculpture.
