TRITHEMIUS, Johannes. Liber Lugubris de Statu et Ruina Monastici Ordinis.Mainz, Peter Friedberg, 21. IV. 1493 4to. 19th-century Bradel-style binding. Papers 30 unnumbered, 35 lines. Register: a-e6, last blank paper. 7 and 4 lines for spaces of Initials. Letters rubricated and ornamented with beautiful Initials in red. In title, manuscript ex libris of the Benedictine Abbey of Scheyern, Bavaria. Fine copy. Very rare first edition. This Pre-Reformation work on the decline of his Order was written by Trithemius at the request of the Abbot of Hirsau, Blasius Scheltrup, to whom the dedication preface on folio a2 is also dedicated.
