Height: 140 cm. Width: 86 cm. Depth: 44 cm. Paris, around 1770s. The furniture is attributed to Charles Topino, who became a master in 1773. Numerous works of Topino are in the Chateau de Versailles. Rosewood marquetry bordered. This marquetry is repeated, in a small form, also on the side panels of the furniture, showing pieces of flowers placed in vases. The frontal representation, however, with much more vivid still-life representation of variously sized vases in different materials, partially turned or else represented as ceramic ware and also decorated with flowers. Cover plate in marble Brèche Médicis. The veneer image partially erg. No key present. Remark: A similar piece of furniture, approximating the present in construction and decoration, was sold at Christie's, London, on 10/07/2008 under lot 73. (13306120) (10) Drop-front secretary Height: 140 cm. Width: 86 cm. Depth: 44 cm. Paris, ca. 1770s. The secretary is attributed to Charles Topino who became a master in 1773. Numerous works by Topino are held at the Palace of Versailles. High-quality structure on four feet that lead into the chamfered sides of the secretary, decorated with ormolu-mountings in acanthus shape. Both doors and the writing surface are veneered with fine woods on the outside, partially stained and partially decorated with pyrography and feature a rosewood marquetry surround. Tabletop in Brèche Médicis marble. The veneer image mended in places. Without keys.
