Commemorative medal in gilded bronze with double-sided decoration in semi-relief.
Marked Antoine Bourdelle and signed with the monogram.

History:
This medal commemorates the inauguration of the monument to General Carlos Maria de Alvear (1789-1852) built by Antoine Bourdelle in 1926 in Buenos Aires. The commission was placed with the sculptor by the Argentine government to celebrate the centenary of the country's independence. The original medal, executed in plaster by Bourdelle, measures 52 cm.
André Lavillier, a medallist engraver, reduced it to bronze.
Preparatory studies for this medal are kept in the Bourdelle Museum in Paris (inventory number mbd5627) and in the Ingres Bourdelle Museum in Montauban (inventory number mi 53.8.65.).
