CHINA, Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
Important sculpture of Shakyamuni Buddha in chased, lacquered and gilded bronze.
He is depicted seated in padmasana and wearing the robe, his naked torso engraved with a swastika.
The base is independent, lotiform and finely decorated.
The right hand is in bhumisparsamudra, the gesture of taking the earth as a witness, the left hand in dhyanamudra.
The dharmachakra, wheel of the law, is engraved under each sole of the foot.

Provenance : French private collection, Nice.
PATRONAGE: The proceeds from the sale of this object will be donated by its owner to finance an important work of patronage, for the benefit of the city of Nice and particularly dedicated to the maintenance and repair of places of worship. The entire amount collected by the sale of this Buddha will be offered to finance the renovation of the church and monastery of Cimiez.
