French National Officers Shako, M1830
French Officers Shako dates from the Louis-Philippe reign of 1830 -1848. The construction of paperboard covered in black felt with a black leather top and a black leather flat peak.
A 32mm wide band of silver lace encircles the top of the shako. With chin scales. In the front a plate displays of a Gallic Cockerel on a cartouche bearing a Trumpet. The metal rosette/cockade at the top front of the shako is of the National Colours red, white and blue. The ‘pom pom’ at the top varied according to the unit in which the wearer belonged.
