Flemish School. Late 15th century.
"Madonna with the Child, Saint Clare and Saint Francis"
Triptych. Oil and gold ground on panel. Open measurements: 18.5 x 30 cm. Closed measurements: 18.5 x 14 cm.
Wonderful triptych for private use and Franciscan devotion. In the central panel, the Virgin Mary holds the Christ Child in her arms, offering a fruit, which symbolizes the food of knowledge. He, in turn, carries the Word in his hand. Inside the doors, on the left, Saint Francis of Assisi receives the stigmata and, on the right, Saint Clare, carryies a monstrance.
The triptych is a reflection of the tenderness of simplicity, typical of the worship of the Franciscans: to worship simplicity.
