Focke, Wilhelm H. 1878 - Bremen - 1974. rider on the dike. Probably 1930s. Oil/canvas, monogrammed WF lower left, 75.5 x 116 cm, on verso on stretcher remains of a railroad label inscribed Bremen and Munich, among others, framed 88 x 127 cm, plus draft drawing for the painting, pen and colored pencil/paper, 1930s, Hadré 283, 11.5 x 14 cm, mounted on backing cardboard 15 x 19.5 cm.- Bremen painter, sculptor, airplane pioneer, inventor and poet Wilhelm Heinrich Focke was the son of Focke Museum founder Johann Focke and brother of the famous airplane builder and lift scraper inventor Heinrich Focke. Wilhelm Focke studied painting and sculpture at the academies in Düsseldorf, Munich and Weimar from 1896 and in Berlin from 1903. Here he was friends with Oskar Kokoschka, Max Slevogt, Hans Thoma and Olaf Gulbransson.
