1960 PORSCHE Type 356 roadster 356B 1600 Serial number 88871 French registration 180 000 / 200 000 € Historically, the Porsche 356 was the first sports car manufactured and marketed by Porsche. Conceived by Ferry Porsche on the mechanical basis of the Volkswagen and designed by Erwin Komenda, it was produced in series from 1948 to 1965. Technically, it is a monocoque with four independent wheels and a four-cylinder flat engine in the rear cantilever. The production of the 356 was spread over more than 17 years for 78,000 copies. Originally the 356 was available as a coupe and a convertible, then at Hoffmann's request, a speedster version was created in 1954! For the year 1960, Porsche modernizes its 356 with the appearance of the 356 B model as our model presented. We have traced the history of this one over the last 30 years. It was imported from the United States in 1993 and belongs to Mr. Gilbert Bal of Antwerp. Then it changed hands in 1996 and was bought by Mr. P. Steinhauser from Luxembourg (numerous invoices for mechanical work at Porsche specialists). In 1998 it crosses the borders to Germany to Lars Rombelsheim (Laro). Mechanical work is done at the specialists P.Hofmann/Classic parts and M.Freisiinger (Karlsruhe). Then the improvements continue in England at its new owner to M.Zimmer (numerous invoices). In 2013 the roadster is sold in Germany to a Klaus Elm (Wiesbaden) (invoices from Laro Sportwagen (Schloss Liebig and Classic Parts-Saarbrücken). In 2015 some bodywork and paint work is done (F.Gerardy - 56751 Polch) and a new hood is installed(Stenzel - 53227 Bonn). In 2015 it is sold to Jan Heitmüller (Meerbusch). In 2017 its current owner acquires it and continues the optimization and general maintenance at Classic Parts (Haefner - Saarbrücken). A very comprehensive file documents these episodes in the life of the Roadster. It benefits from the Kardex and the original engine (matching number, complete ready to mount - photos) with carburetors, ignition, exhaust, etc. The engine currently in use is homologated in Germany (Fahrzeugbrief) as an S90 with exceptional performance. Its owner told us this, "I purchased the roadster in 2017 after a long and meticulous search for a fully restored body/chassis example. The one presented met all the major criteria. The following year was spent upgrading everything that could be upgraded: engine, gearbox, electrical system, brakes, etc. These operations were carried out in Germany by a recognized specialist who deals only with 356 models. Here are the main outstanding features of the car (improvement): - Electrical system: 12 volts adapted to the whole car. - Engine: ignition, Weber carburetors, booster pump, sport exhaust system - Interior: Porsche bucket seats, new windshield, original Porsche US steering wheel (wood) - Accessories: original plug, set of hand tools, manual, 4 Koni shocks - Original engine complete with matching number. - The car is regularly used for trips in the countryside in dry weather. It sleeps under a tarp in a private garage. Routine maintenance is done by a Porsche specialist and dealer. This roadster has been restored over the last few years in true Porsche spirit, as it could have been in the 1960's. It is a rare example destined to bring many years of satisfaction to an enthusiast. Its history is documented with numerous invoices from the beginning, delivery at Brumos (Florida) to the present day. Of course, the Kardex of the roadster is part of it.
