Saber of Officer of State Major of type Vendémiaire year XII. 1st EMPIRE. Gilded brass mounting. Pommel in rib of melon prolonging itself by a skirt with short tail underlined by a net. Curved branch of guard joining the cruise with right angle widening in its top to form two crosses. Body knot chiseled on both sides with staff attributes, antique helmets, flags, swords and trumpets with foliage decoration on each side. Slightly curved quillon with a leonine mask, half-oreillas chased with a palmette, ebony fusee with squares (missing at the base of the cap). Blade half-curved with hollow sides with false edge, engraved with trophies, foliage, laurel wreaths framed in gold (remainder of blue). Iron scabbard with three gilded brass fittings, the tanning has turned to tobacco (oxidation). Chape embellished with a hatched frieze that highlights the profile of the auricles, bracelets molded and chiseled two laurel wreaths linked by a ribbon, pitons embellished with laurel leaves. Long bouterolle decorated with a rosette framed by two strong moldings and a half-palmette. Characteristic sting of this model, asymmetrical and cut in openwork stock. This saber is equipped with a green Moroccan belt with two brackets and hook closure and a strap entirely in gold trimmings, cordon with braid "cul de dé", braided tassel in gold threads, flexible bangs, wear & slight accidents for both. Blade about 83 cm, arrow about 4.5 cm, total length 98 cm without scabbard, length with scabbard 103 cm. Missing gilding, oxidation. GOOD CONDITION. Former Sapin-Dignières collection from the Château de Maraval, sword acquired in Baylen, Spain, where General Dupond's army surrendered.
