Imperial Guard horse grenadier saber, 3rd model. 1st EMPIRE, circa 1810-1811. Saber of the Manufacture of VERSAILLES. Brass mounting, skirted cap, three-pronged guard forming an openwork shell and decorated with a flaming grenade. The top is stamped with "VERSAILLES" and "JC" in an oval corresponding to J. CAZAMAJOU, reviser from January 1809 to September 1811, and "V" for verified or visited underneath. The other marks are difficult to read, but one can distinguish a "B" over the one of "VERSAILLES" and another "V" inside the guard. Wooden spindle covered with leather, no watermark. Blade with hollow sides and gutters, with very weak curvature, engraved on the flat back "MnFture Imple de Klingenthal Coulaux Frères", punched with the "B" of J.G BICK, controller of first class of February 1809 to July 1819 and certainly of a spangled "M" for C.MARION, inspector of December 1808 to June 1811. Saber equipped with a large bleached buffalo strap (later model). Strong brass scabbard with two bracelets (wear to the pitons), openwork with two rounded crevices between the two bracelets revealing wood, old repair at the level of the lower splints (accident often met on the original pieces), finished by a large and strong asymmetrical iron sting. Nice historical piece that has lived through and is in good condition. Blade about 97 cm, total length 113 cm without sheath, length with sheath 116 cm. BE.
