Our painting takes the composition of one of the bas-reliefs of the set Les quatre saisons attributed to Louis-Félix de La Rue sold in Paris (Hôtel Drouot, June 6, 2018, Me Thierry de Maigret, n° 54). Model frequently circulating in the workshops, we know of a recovery by Anne Vallayer-Coster past sale in Paris (Hôtel Drouot, Mes Audap-Solanet, Godeau-Veillet, June 16, 1995, No. 47).
There are several photographs of Jean-Charles Töpffer's workshop on which our painting is visible.
