Collective. Histoire universelle depuis le commencement du monde jusqu'à présent; composée en Anglois par une société de Gens de Lettres; Enrichie de figures et de cartes. Paris, Moutard, 1779- 1791. 124 (out of 126) vol. in-8 illustrated with a frontispiece, maps and plates. A monumental edition, almost complete and very rare in this condition and in uniform binding. This English work was translated by Louis Dussieux (1744-1805), Pierre-Prime-Félicien Le Tourneur (1737-1788) and François-Joseph Goffaux (1755-1836). The first forty volumes are devoted to ancient history, including the history of the Jews, the Celts, the ancient history of Greece, the history of the Germans and the Gauls. Modern history includes most of Europe.
A fine copy, with a few small leather tears. The last 2 volumes are missing (the last volume of the table of modern history and the supplement).
