Illustrated Alphabet.
[Followed by:] Current readings. Joseph Scholz. Mainz. [Circa 1860 ?]. In-12 (17 x 10.7 cm). 32 pp. with (6) pp. of plates / 16 pp. with (13) pp. of plates: half cloth with small corners, marbled paper boards (later binding).
Reunion of two illustrated and colored primers.
The first one begins with six pages of four stenciled animal engravings arranged alphabetically. From Donkey to Zebra. Fourteen lessons follow: upper and lower case alphabets, syllables with A, E, I, O, U, accents, diphthongs and joining several consonants.
The second title includes twelve pages of two illustrations and a last page for the Z of sable, engraved and colored with stencil. A for Apricot tree, Bishop, Rifle, Racket [Game of Shuttlecock], Xylography, etc.
Rare meeting. Only two copies of the first volume are referenced in libraries.
Loose stitching with reinforcement on the bottom of some double pages. A tear on the paper of the second cover reveals a romantic light blue binding.
