GASPAR HOMAR MEZQUIDA (Bunyola, Mallorca, 1870 – Barcelona, 1953). Modernist sofa, circa 1900. Mahogany wood with gilding and upholstery in antiline. Measurements: 138 x 160 x 67 cm. Can be combined with lot 35047623. Modernist sofa made in mahogany wood, with cream antiline upholstery and carved and gilded details. It has a structure of fluid lines, combining straight lines and sinuous curves, typically modernist. All the legs are square in section, although the front legs are more decorative, with gilt grooves and a more pronounced curvature, directly derived from the rococo cabriole leg, which was widely used during modernism. The waist is trimmed with anti-classical curves and decorated on the front with hollow-carved and gilded floral motifs. The arms follow a curved, stepped profile, enhanced by gilt mouldings, and the backrest has two stylised cut-outs on either side, again with gilt lines running through them. The top is decorated with a floral bouquet carved in relief and gilt, which is very naturalistic.
