THE OLD CORDELIER
Diary written by Camille Desmoulins, Deputy of the Convention, and Dean of the Jacobins
N° 1, Quintidi 15 Frimaire year II [Wednesday December 5, 1793] - N° 6, Décadi 10 Nivose year II [Sunday December 30, 1793]. It misses n° 7, posthumous, Quintidi Pluviose an II [February 24, 1794]. 1 vol. in-8 bound in full calf. Brittle spines but a very nice copy.
This plea against the Terror earned Camille Desmoulins to be classified in the camp of the enemies of the Revolution. Arrested while correcting the proofs of n° 7, he was condemned to death and executed on April 5, 1794. "Le Vieux Cordelier is perhaps the most eloquent work that the Revolution has produced and certainly, before and since, journalism has known nothing that can be compared to it." (Hatin, p. 147).
