ROUSSEAU (Jean-Jacques). Complete collection of the Works of J.J. Rousseau, Citizen of Geneva. In Geneva, s.n. [Société typographique], 1782-1789. 17 vol. in-4, contemporary tortoiseshell calf, spine with 5 nerves, garnet morocco title-piece, brown morocco (green for the last 2 volumes), ornamented caissons, boards bordered with a triple fillet with angular fleurons, all gilt, double gilt fillet at the edges, marbled edges, binding restored (brownings).
Important edition of Rousseau's works, established by Pierre Moultou and Du Peyrou, in which the first part of the Confessions appeared for the first time, together with a separate version in two volumes. Volumes 16 and 17 of this edition contain the continuation and the end of the Confessions.
A fine copy enriched with plates, mainly from the Brussels edition, 1774-1783: portrait of the author engraved by A. de Saint Aubin after La Tour, 44 engraved plates, mainly after Moreau le jeune, but also after Cochin, 19 music plates, 14 of which are folding.
