Carpet KARATCHOFF (Caucasus-Armenia), end of the 19th century Dimensions : 240 x 162cm. Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on wool foundation. A frame, composed of a navy and emerald main border decorated with polychrome stylized chalices and oak leaves, flanked by two counter borders with two-tone sawtooth ivory and brick, encloses a brick field supporting a large medallion gigogne ivory and sky, octagonal with hooks, entomological and cruciform boxes, multicolored floral medallions and kotchaks (ram horns) in opposition. The whole is placed on a speckled counter field and framed by four ivory and sky boxes decorated with stars of the Medes and hooks and by entomological forms and small gems.
