Tiefo statue, Burkina Faso
Wood
H. 65 cm
Rare and large monoxyle Janus statue representing two figures back to back, with two distinct pairs of arms detached from the body, but sharing a single pair of legs. The faces are full of severity. Beautiful crusty patina attesting to an ancient ritual use. The statue would have been collected in the Dégué Dégué region, east of Banfora and Tiefora (Burkina Faso).
