This remarkable hardwood seat collected by Captain Henri Orquevaux before 1914 is a distinguished example of Luba royal art. Among its most remarkable characteristics are the refined scarification patterns composed of two series of six rhombuses and an accumulation of protuberances on the abdomen and torso, the elongated and elegantly ringed neck, and a hairstyle composed of four series of braids joining at the nape of the neck. Provenance: Collected in situ by Captain Henri Orquevaux (1881-1917) before 1914. Transmitted by family descent. Private collection, Belgium.
