Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1833), son of a foundryman, he was trained by Pajou and Houdon at the Academy of Saint-Luc from which he received a reward in 1772. He joined the workshop of the chaser-gilder Pierre Gouthière and opened his own workshop in 1776. From 1780, following the bankruptcy of Gouthière, he became supplier of the Garde-Meuble royal.
Active during the Revolution, Thomire participated in the Public Exhibition of Industrial Products and won a gold medal. In 1809, he received the patent of supplier of Their Imperial and Royal Majesties. The Empire style marks the peak of Thomire. In 1811, he made the cradle of the King of Rome in vermeil for Saint-Cloud. The quality of the bronzes produced in his workshops allowed Thomire to remain in business until the reign of Louis-Philippe.
