JORDI ALCARAZ I TARRADAS (Calella, Barcelona, 1963). "Quedar-se adormit, llegint, 2016. Book and methacrylate. Signed, dated and titled on the back. Size: 48 x 64 cm; 55 x 70 cm (frame). Through the poetic phrase "Quedar-se adormit, llegint", Jordi Alcaraz presents a work that reflects on time, volume and language, featuring an old, bound book with the imprint of a circle in its centre. It is a transgressive piece very much in keeping with his artistic production, in which the artist experiments with materials and relates them in an unexpected way to the real world. Jordi Alcaraz began his artistic career in the field of sculpture and engraving. Since his beginnings, throughout these twenty-five years of activity, he has held numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Spain and in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Canada and Switzerland, the United States (New York and Los Angeles), and has been present at some of the most important fairs on the international contemporary art circuit (Arco, Art Basel, Art Frankfurt, Art Cologne, Art Chicago, Art Miami and Arte Lisboa, among others). Alcaraz's discourse departs from the classical tradition of painting and sculpture to arrive at a reflection on volume, language and time through the use of materials such as water, glass, mirrors, reflections, or books that include this idea. His artistic language is dominated by visual transgression, the interplay of different gazes and the combination of transparencies and holes that allow us to glimpse hidden, magical spaces. In this way Jordi Alcaraz establishes, through his works, an unprecedented, surprising and metaphorical relationship with the world. His works are currently in collections such as the Biedermann Museum in Donaueschingen, Germany, the Fontanal Cisneros Collection in Miami, the Williams Collection in Massachusetts, the Olor Visual in Barcelona and the Fundación Banco Sabadell.
