MARTÍ GUIXÉ (Barcelona, 1964). "Burn-me". Wood. Series of 205 pieces. Measurements: 70 x 45 x 45 cm. The artist describes this piece as follows: "Bundles of wood about to burn consisting of small blocks of wood, specially designed to be burnt, made of different types of wood and different shapes and sizes. The objects presented are just as they are: flammable objects, in the form of small piles of firewood". Martí Guixé graduated in 1985 in interior design at Elisava University School of Design and Engineering in Barcelona and, in 1986, he enrolled in an industrial design study programme at Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan. Martí Guixé lives and works between Barcelona and Berlin. In 2001 he admitted: "I've become hooked on Berlin because of its special energy". Although he also spends long periods of time in Milan, where he currently teaches. In 1994, and coinciding with his stays as a consultant in Seoul (South Korea), he began to formulate a new way of understanding the culture of products in Berlin, starting to exhibit his work in 1997. Guixé revolutionised the world of design by working with living matter - food - that can be transformed and decomposed; mixing areas such as anthropology, humour, gastronomy, typography, human sciences, exact sciences and design. Martí Guixé's sensitivity to materials that are quick, readily available and geared towards mass consumption led him to become an innovator and a reference in the application of design to food. He also became a pioneer - at that time, when he started out, a completely unexplored path - of "food design" with his 1997 project SPAMT (És Pà amb Tomàquet).
