Alexandre BERLANT (1921-1994) Two pencil drawings: - Couple of dancers. Signed lower right and dedicated lower center. - Dancer. Signed and dedicated lower right. Each : 29 x 20 cm Alexandre Berlant, a French artist born in Kiev, has done numerous book illustrations, including Eugene de Rijac's Classical Dance without Bars. He is sometimes described as a painter of dance and nature. Alexandre Berlant is also known for his actions during the Second World War, during which he directed a workshop for the manufacture of false papers that saved many people. These two drawings are dedicated to Paul Schaffer. Paul Schaffer, a survivor of the death march, was vice-president of Yad Vachem France and president of the Union of Auschwitz Deportees.
