Meeting of combatants, China, ca. 1750 Folded fan, the double sheet of wallpaper of a wide view of a river and mountains on the horizon, with dwellings. To the left, women smoking long pipes look at hunters or soldiers. Two are on horseback with bows and arrows, two are on foot, one wielding a sword. Reverse side painted with three flower bushes including irises and peonies. Mounted in pierced ivory, cut, engraved and gilded on both sides, a central butterfly and two side cartels decorated with a couple playing music.
