Sculpture of Mao Zedong, 20th century.
Glazed biscuit porcelain.
Size: 45 x 21 x 24 cm.
Mao Zedong sculpture made in porcelain that presents the dignitary seated wearing a Sun Yatsen style jacket, Mao Zedong, maximum leader of the Chinese Communist Party and later of the People's Republic of China. He spearheaded the Communist Party's rise to power by provoking the flight of Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang to Taiwan. Mao became China's supreme leader until his death in 1976. Between 1966 and 1969 he led the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, a massive campaign organised by Mao against the remaining top Communist Party officials, accusing them of betraying communist values. It radicalised the party's actions and exalted Mao as the sole and undisputed leader.
